The 15th Annual
NSU "Day of Champions"
will take place on April 22, 2017
If you know of a non-profit or school that has a volunteer opportunity available, please fill out the attached application.
In 2016, over 150 Northern State University athletes and coaches spent a labor intense day working for non-profits, communities and schools, monetarily contributing $25,000 worth of labor. Aaron Schultz, Executive Director of the United Way of Northern South Dakota and Josh Moon, NSU Athletic Director, and Terri Holmes, Compliance Coordinator/Senior Women's Administrator, serve as Co-Chairs of the event. The United Way of Northeastern South Dakota spearheaded the event finding 13 projects based on need and merit.
A big thank you goes to the Aberdeen Sertoma Club, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Subway and Pepsi of Aberdeen who have helped sponsor food and drink since the first Day of Champions. Another big thank you goes out to Twist Cone for giving proceeds of ice cream sales for the day to help fund project materials costs. We want to thank Ride-Line for providing transportation for the athletes. Also a big thank you to NorthWestern Energy for providing student scholorships for 2 of the athletes participating. Last but not least thanks to Dakota Broadcasting, Hub City radio, the American News and the Mayor and City Council for the great publicity leading up to the event.
